چکیده

background & aim: according to presence of immune system factors in chronic periapical lesions, hypersensitivity reactions may have some role in pathogenesis of these lesions. up to now, among the factors participating in type i hypersensitivity reaction, only one of them has been studied. so the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the presence of ige & number of mast cell and the presence of ige and histamin in human dental chronic periapical lesions. methods & subjects: in this analytical study, 40 specimens were collected from 39 patients. after extraction of the lesions, they were divided into two sections. half of the sections were used for explant culture and were maintained for 3 days. then sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) was used to determine the presence and concentration of ige and histamine. based on the presence of ige, the samples were divided into case (with ige) and control (without ige) groups. the other sections were used for estimating the number of mast cells by histopathological technique. mann – whitney u test and spearman correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. results: the average percent of mast cells in case and control groups was respectively, 10.257.02 and 6.94.09. there was no difference between the case and control groups regarding the number of mast cells and histamin concentration. also there was not any correlation between ige and mast cells or ige and histamin. conclusion: it is concluded that hypersensitivity reaction type i possibly does not have any role in pathogenesis of chronic periapical lesions. j dent sch 2006 24(3): 8

Presence of Leptin in chronic periapical lesions

Introduction: Studies have shown the regulatory role of Leptin in bone formation, its expression in adipose tissue as well as increased levels in circulation following the adminstration of inflammatory stimuli such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS). However, there is little data evaluating the role of Leptin in inflammatory periapical lesions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence and c...

Quantification and Localization of Mast Cells in Periapical Lesions

BACKGROUND Periapical lesions occur in response to chronic irritation in periapical tissue, generally resulting from an infected root canal. Specific etiological agents of induction, participating cell population and growth factors associated with maintenance and resolution of periapical lesions are incompletely understood. Among the cells found in periapical lesions, mast cells have been impli...

comparison of mast cell presence in inflammatory periapical lesions including periapical cyst and granuloma using cd117 (c-kit)

background periapical lesions are induced in response to injuries to periapical tissues, which are generally the result of infections within the root canal. mast cells actively participate to the inflammatory infiltration of periapical granulomas and cysts. objectives the aim of this study was to detect and compare the presence of mast cells in inflammatory periapical lesions, including cysts a...

Comparison of Mast Cells and Inflammatory Cells within Periapical Lesions and Comparison of Degranulated Mast Cells Between Fibrous and Inflamed Area in Radicular Cysts: An Immunohistochemical Study.

OBJECTIVE The role of mast cells as the key effector of allergic inflammation, anaphylactic inflammatory reactions and in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammation, is well-known. The present study is adopted to compare mast cells and inflammatory cells within periapical granuloma and cysts and localize the mast cells and quantify their number in the periapical cysts so as to propose a role of m...
